James

“I love all aspects of adventure, running, cycling, swimming and rowing are all favourites of mine, I use these activities to almost tirelessly raise funds for the UN Refugee Agency.

However, one day, I’d just love to do cycle in a refugee-less world.”

Oyin

“Having experienced my family host a refugee family during the Liberian civil war when I was a teenager and me interviewing IDPs as a journalist in Nigeria, I have a personal sense of responsibility towards refugees and internally displaced persons.

“I can identify with this cause as I have witnessed firsthand the physical and emotional effects of displacements on families.

“The responsibility to advocate for these communities and raise awareness about the grossly underreported humanitarian crisis across West Africa stems from the fact that the hunger and starvation, sexual violence and injustices these people live through are real and heartbreaking.

“I absolutely believe in the mission of giving hope and second chances at life to displaced persons. That exactly is what UNHCR stands for.

“This is why I decided to run a marathon to fundraise for UK for UNHCR. UNHCR is visibly present in remote and dangerous areas providing vital aid and support to displaced families.”

Oyin, fundrasier
