At two-years-old, Zakiriya has already experienced so much conflict and destruction in his short life.
His family fled the war in Syria when he was a baby and found safety in Beirut. But when the recent explosion erupted at the port he was buried under rubble and glass. His father ran to save him; “He was bleeding heavily. There were pools of blood — that moment was beyond imagination.”
Zakariya was left with two deep cuts on his head that required 25 stitches.
UNHCR is on the ground in some of the most dangerous places in the world helping families like Zakariya’s, providing access to shelter, food, water, healthcare and protection. This is only possible thanks to your continued support.
