Employee engagement

Engage your colleagues and celebrate a partnership with UK for UNHCR.

Your support of UK for UNHCR can help showcase your company’s values, boost staff cohesion, morale and retention, while also attracting new employees by providing them with an opportunity to make a positive impact on global, social issues.

UNHCR works in over 130 countries, meaning a presence in many locations where you will have employees, and a wealth of expertise globally. Partnering with UK for UNHCR, therefore, means an opportunity to make a direct connection between your colleagues and our work, both locally and globally.

There are several ways for you and your colleagues to get involved in a partnership with us, here are just a few ideas:

Fundraising for refugees

You can do something amazing for refugees whilst taking on your next challenge or joining an event. Whether you’re looking to beat your personal best, take on a virtual challenge from anywhere in the world, or join our events for World Refugee Day, there’s plenty of ways to get involved and raise vital funds to help refugees. You can create a fundraising page for your event, donate to other people’s events, or even see how your team is doing against others on our leaderboard!

Fundraising Pack and Ideas

From small office bake sales to large gala dinners, there’s lots of different ways employees can organise fundraising events to show their support and to raise vital funds for our work.

Whatever your employees decide to organise, we’ll be with them every step of the way from handy fundraising packs filled with ideas to off-the-shelf resources to make your event not only simple but successful too!

Payroll giving

Leverage the generosity of employees and your company’s matching programmes in a tax-efficient way through giving programs and impactful engagement opportunities.

We work with many payroll giving companies to offer employees an easy way to donate tax-efficiently; either on a one-off basis or monthly. We also work with platforms such as Benevity who offer built-in corporate match funding options as well as giving employees the opportunity not only to donate to UK for UNHCR but also to select where their donation goes (e.g., Emergency Appeal / seasonal appeal / thematic based).

We recommend exploring these companies for payroll giving opportunities:

Benevity
CAF
Charities Trust
Cybergrants

Pro Bono and volunteering

Volunteering your time or expertise provides critical support to help UNHCR deliver on its mandate. There are a range of opportunities for employees to engage in pro bono and volunteering including supporting with legal pro bono advice, offering expertise on particular projects or campaigns, or volunteering at one of our events.

Outside the UK, there are also opportunities for employees to offer their time and expertise. Volunteers work in a variety of roles ranging from protection, refugee status determination, programme delivery, communication, information technology to administrative functions and more. Every year, around 900 UN Volunteers support UNHCR in some 70 countries, with the average contract 6–12 months.

You can also volunteer online for UNHCR, from wherever you are in the world, through the UN Volunteers platform.

In-person or virtual speaking events

From lunch and learns, to townhalls, to D&I events, our team are always exploring opportunities to meet and speak to employees about our work, how to stand with refugees, and how fundraising and advocating for refugees can make a huge impact*.

We also have sector experts who are available to speak to your employees on a range of technical themes including housing and shelter, legal protection, education and also refugee voices who can share their stories and how the support from UNHCR has helped them to move forward in their lives.

*For non-partners, we ask for a small donation for speaking events.

If you have any questions or would like to find out more, we would love to hear from you. Please email Emma Hett at [email protected]
