The strength of a mother’s love

In the chaos of conflict, children can become separated from their parents and arrive at different refugee settlements, sometimes in different countries.  They’re scared and alone, like any child who has been separated from their parents.

This is the moment Semira, a refugee mother, is reunited with her children after eight years apart.

The family became separated when they were forced to flee persecution and violence in Eritrea. Semira’s two young children undertook a harrowing journey to safety, travelling alone through four countries, often without food and water. They even survived kidnapping.

Their harrowing story reflects the determination of so many refugees around the world, struggling to keep their families together amidst adversity.
